Roll Call'16: Madaxeman takes a punt at Pontus in ADLG

Post autor: madaxeman »

As ADLG makes it's way onto the big boys table of UK competitions with a 16-player field for 15mm ADLG at Roll Call 2016, discover how Mithradates of Pontus manages to almost (but not quite) control his many and varied disparate troop types in 5 games against all possible flavours of Romans.

Yes, it's 5 brand new Match Reports, complete with rules hints and explanations for what might well be the worlds most popular Ancients competition ruleset right now, L'Art de la Guerre!

Hi.
I've read all the reports. Nice, Romans again and again. :D
I'm looking for something bigger than DBA, smaller than Impetus and not as complicated as FOG. ADLG is absolutly unknown here in Poland. Is this ruleset worth it's money? It's a little to expensive to buy it just to find out.

At 20-25 moving parts per side in the standard game, working out to maybe 30-35 DBX bases it certainly hits all of those sweet spots size and complexity-wise, and if you have a DBM background it will be easy enough to pick up too.

Cost I can't really fix, but the book does include all of the army lists as well as the main rules.

My summary of it is here: http://www.madaxeman.com/L_Art_de_la_Guerre_page.php

Thanks for reply.
Any army list in rulebook fits early Polish army (circa 1000 ad; DBA III/62a)? Or there is just a gap between ADLG153(Slavs) and 203(Feudal Polish)?

The Slav list goes from 476-1218 and covers the Baltic, Danube, Adriatic Coast and Balkan area states who were eventually taken over by the Avars, Bulgars, Magyars, Khazars, Franks and Rus, plus the Wends (who it says lasted longest).

The Feudal Polish runs 966-1333, and has 4-10 charging Heavy Cavalry, 2-10 (or 4-20 DBx bases) close formation spearmen and 2-12 (ie 4-24) bow-armed peasants in the early version plus a few skirmishers and levy Post 1150 the only real difference is that the cavalry become knights, and post 1242 you get Russians, Lithuanians, Hungarians & Cumans, and some axe-using peasants.

So, this list I think covers the Early Polish army in DBA, and part of the subsequent one too.
